Annette ★★★½

Opera meets theater meets eccentricity, Annette is a heavy on senses experiment masquerading as cinema. Profound in one scene and bizarre in the next, it takes massive risks in the method of its storytelling while its screenplay tiptoes towards disorientation.

The exasperating genius of Leos Carax is evident as the chaotic frequency map of Annette bounces one genre to another and never settles for orthodoxy. It is a finicky, insanely high-on-self tragedy act which is carried ashore by a fabulous, scene stealing Adam Driver.
