The Old Dark House 1932
Old-school cool with James Wale. This is so pivotal for every “let’s knock on that creepy house’s door for help” film that followed.
Wale was so much better at cinematic balance than his contemporaries. Plot, setting, and characters all get a spotlight in ways that many director’s of the 30s couldn’t make happen.
