    The Straight Story

It is in my humble opinion that this is the closest to perfection that a film could ever be. I’ve never seen anything made with so much - and so full of - love. I was teary the whole way through and sat through the credits sobbing and holding my cat. I’m in awe, not only at the film itself but at the fact that it became my first 5 star rating in over a year. I really did not expect that when I woke up this morning and I will have this soundtrack running through my head for a long time.

It’s been a really long time since I felt like this at the cinema. When you know the film is nearing the end and it starts fading to black and you just sit and smile and feel a bit like crying because of how much you loved what you just saw. Absolutely love when the kids outact the adults. The adults were still great but I forgot Judd Hirsch had even been in this 20 minutes after he left but Gabriel LaBelle was absolutely amazing and the two older sisters in that exact scene you’re thinking of too blew me away (which made sense when the credits flashed up and I realised one of them was Julia Butters).

I wasn’t a huge fan of this book when I read it but I think it has a much more interesting structure in terms of how we see Marion and her naivety towards Tom and their compatibility right from the start. The film jumps so far into them knowing each other familiarly that I think it loses a lot of what makes their relationships with each other and Patrick so complex.

    Also I truly adore Harry…

    The Broken Hearts Gallery

It’s so funny to me that it’s called The Broken Heart Gallery all the way through the film and then some guy in marketing must have said “hey guys it sounds better plural” and the director was like “but... Dacre Montgomery makes a whole ass neon sign that says The Broken Heart Gallery” and the marketing guy just shrugged.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

23 year old possessive, creepy drug addict takes advantage of local sheltered terminally ill teenage girl to the point where he literally only hangs out with her to steal her lifesaving medicine from her living room, takes her out on all night benders without said medicine and leaves her to die on a fucking rooftop, but it’s okay because she’s dying and now she gets to go to a school formal with her edgy boy. Also the parents have shite…
