I'm fine with someone making a movie that's just a gauntlet of debasement, but don't blow smoke up my ass and tell me "it's really about empathy" when your main character's POV is consistently shouted down by other characters telling him what a waste of breath he is. In fact, the movie would have been more effective if it had dropped the bullshit and just owned its cruelty, because then it wouldn't give audiences the easy out of congratulating themselves on how sensitive they are for shedding a few tears for this disgusting pig (movie's words, not mine).
