    Independence Day: Resurgence 2016

    Tasha Robinson

    ★½ Watched by Tasha Robinson 26 Jun 2016 13

Is this three-fourths of a movie? There are some transitions in this thing that are just incomprehensible in terms of moving characters from one place to the next instantaneously, and there are several points where characters seem to be referencing past events that never happened onscreen. New characters abruptly appear out of nowhere and are treated as though they have backstories and are relevant and interesting. Magical technology works until it abruptly doesn't, at convenient moments and for no clear…

“As a musicologist — and I consider myself one — there was always a great deal of respect for Elvis, especially during his Sun sessions,” Chuck D said. “As a Black people, we all knew that. My whole thing was the one-sidedness — like, Elvis’s icon status in America made it like nobody else counted. ... My heroes came before him. My heroes were probably his heroes. As far as Elvis being ‘The King,’ I couldn’t buy that.”

unlike most punk cinema of its time - take the same year's Dudes or Surf Nazis Must Die - the character(s) of Robinson's Garden seem more concerned with forging their own path rather than rebelling against whatever the dominant ideology is; Yamamoto's film does something similar, never truly giving the audience what is expected from a film that could be reduced to a "80s Japanese punk film" and offering something a lot more contemplative (and a lot more about nature) than any preconceptions may lead the viewer to alongside a color palette that more so resembles mid-to-late 60s Godard than the films of, say, Alex Cox

Many many years ago when i still went on 4ch, someone posted in a thread I was scrolling about how they attempted to summon a succubus in order to broker a deal to get laid, only for the process to not work out how they expected and, long story short, how at the point they made that post their wish had come true - they were getting laid left and right, but had completely ceased even to derive any pleasure…

this movie reminded me of two things:

    1. this one time i was on shrooms and somehow ended up on a twitch stream by a user named "lil cocksucker" and he was just some like 19 year old kid in a shitty bedroom with his mattress pushed up against the wall getting drunk off a handle of jack and doing yo yo tricks and giving weird dating advice to no one. i started interacting with him and getting him to…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

In David Cronenberg’s Crash (1996) Doctor Robert Vaughn (Elias Koteas, part Doctor Frankenstein, part his Monster) is obsessed with the philosophical transition of the human body with the machines we have built. He believes in the co-existence, and the reshaping of how we perceive our flesh as it has come to exist in a parallel place with steel and iron and oil. Cronenberg was a visionary, who was always searching for the newest evolution of the body. A few years…
