Call Me by Your Name

Call Me by Your Name ★★★★

"You'll kill me if you stop."

A lament of longing.
Call Me by Your Name is a marvel of patient direction and dedicated performance. Twisting the poignant source material into an accessible piece of visual media, director Luca Guadagnino is the true MVP of this experience. Characters breathe life into frames, the atmosphere blends in as if it has always been around you, birds flap past your head and conversations creep within earshot at every turn.
Though Michael Stuhlbarg occasionally leaves scenes to be desired, he does not fail to deliver the most purposeful and impactful sequence of the entire novel and film, leaving both the protagonist and the audience completely gut-punched.

It might not leave you in anguish as André Aciman's words did, it will have you exiting the cinema with the bitter melancholy many of us have felt from the struggles of love and youth.
