Trying to write a review that articulates how this film felt is almost as frustrating as watching the film! Persona is a fever dream that makes even less sense when it’s over; between the disjointed shots and minimalized environment, muddled questions lay waste to the viewer’s mind. It’s a collective effort of the human experience and the terrors that exist within it; each issue poses another, every horror linked to the next. This was my introduction to Bergman’s oeuvre and while I liked the experimental approach, I genuinely don’t think I have the capacity to say anything substantial. It’s a puzzle of a film, one that I will be piecing together for a long time.
