Sorcerer ★★★★½

A movie about the swirling, unavoidable forces that pull us towards our death, and how they draw some of us towards that end faster than others.

This and The Wages of Fear demonstrate two different but very effective ways to do a thriller. While I like the slow burn of The Wages of Fear, I have nothing but respect for the way this movie addresses the major complaint about that one, replacing the hour long scene-setting build up with a 25 minute block of four rapid-fire thriller set pieces.

A movie that is incredibly vibrant and alive and tactile in a way that overwhelmingly enhances the sweaty suspense of its big nailbiter moments as well as giving it a thousand brilliant grace notes.
