When They See Us

When They See Us

Parts 1 & 2 are gripping, though fairly conventional. Part 3 is the clear low-point; meandering and unfocused, especially coming off the heels of the emotionally devastating conclusion to part 2. Part 4, the longest entry at just under 90 minutes, could stand up as its own self-contained feature. It's harrowing, tense, and heartbreaking. Jharrel Jerome is stunning, the dramatic flourishes are effective; if part 4 was released separately, it would rank just outside my top 5 of the year so far.
