Pretty cool slasher exploring some veteran PTSD. It opens kind of like Jacob’s Ladder, which had me thinking it might end the same way, too. A veteran, Andy (John Marley), comes home from the war a changed man, empty inside, like a tin man perhaps, and goes out at night to refill the void. The most fun I’ve had at a Marvel movie in quite some time. The humor really works well with these characters, particularly the Drax-centric humor, which pretty much always hits. James Gunn has a genuinely great handle on all of these characters. The visuals looked stellar, especially in IMAX. The action set pieces were exciting and exceptionally well-realized, especially the corridor fight sequence. The film is not without issues, though. This is a film that lands squarely in the Not For Everyone genre. It’s an absurdist satire of our collective existential dread. A 2 hr plus genre hopping escapade that at it’s most basic follows a family amidst an evacuation of their town as it is being threatened by a toxic airborne event.
