Every once in a while I encounter a film that feels so off base with its reputation and in my opinion, this was one of them. Feels like a case of “this movie makes me uncomfortable so I’ll laugh at it to outsmart it” kinda deal. True story or not — parts of this film (especially the first half) were surprisingly raw and intense.

Wow. I have a lot of thoughts on this one but I guess I’ll just say — it’s exciting to see a film that tests its audience in so many ways get this wide of a release. Horror continues to be the genre which pushes form and content the furthest on the widest audience — and that’s worth so, so much.
I know this will be a divisive one, but I hope it pushes the needle of the general moviegoing public into more adventurous territories.
