Kevin Clarke’s review published on Letterboxd:
This whole enterprise stinks of J.J. grumpily taking his toys back from a younger sibling because they weren’t playing with them correctly, but I still enjoyed it. I hated certain reveals, loved how around every corner was some new weird alien, teared up at pandering cameos, laughed at one particular joke more than I ever have during a Star War. The ending would be perfect, if not for a lot of the noise surrounding it. A fine follow-up to FORCE AWAKENS. A lousy follow-up to THE LAST JEDI. J.J.’s remake of RETURN OF THE JEDI is what we get, and it’s certainly what some people want, but maybe not what we need.
