Malignant ★★★★½

That was the best time I had with a movie this year. James Wan, drunk off his own power as Warner Bros. new golden boy, un hinges himself completely and delivers a masterpiece of schlock; a malformed, beautiful, deranged monster of a movie that drinks from the fountains of Giallo films, 80's low budget grotesqueries and the early 2000's edgy, industrial-flavored slashers and torture porn joints that saw Wan emerge into the industry.

And he presents all of this with his usual god tier levels of craft, dressing the sticky, slimy events with a sheen of blockbuster polish: wonderfully inventive and elaborate shots and sequences, delicious sound design and all the beautiful cinematography a blank check from Warner can buy.

This is an instant classic.
