Manchester by the Sea 2016
This was even better on the rewatch. The direction of this film makes more sense knowing how you want it to end. I love every performance in this movie and it has one of the best scenes in film

Nocturnal Animals 2016
What a great idea for a revenge story. Edward’s story is what Susan did to Edward. The parallels between Edward’s story and Susan’s memory scenes are genius.

Nightcrawler 2014
Jake Gyllenhaal kills it as Lou Bloom who has one goal and nothing else matters but success. This isn’t an man turned crazy movie as we get a lot of real world issues that is shined to the light such as the dark side of news media, business owners being shady but getting rid of those who threaten them, what it takes for business to succeed.

Whiplash 2014
“There are no two words in the English language more harmful than good job”
This is a film all about pushing for greatness. We have two characters that but in the effort and sacrificing things to become or create what they desire. We see the characters go through what they think is worth becoming great and get a climax that without saying a word gives us respect for both characters.
Also J.K. Simmons is incredible in every role he is in.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire 2019
This has got to be the most beautiful film I’ve seen. I really feeling like if you pause any moment in this film you got a great picture. Every ocean shot, or eye contact with the camera is perfectly done. Not to mention scenes where someone catches fire.
You think it ends and it is a 10/10 ending but it continues. Then you think it ends and it’s a 11/10 ending but it still continues. Then it really ends and it leaves us unsatisfied yet satisfied as we don’t get the lover’s choice but the poets.

La La Land 2016
They built the relationship up really well. There are so many memorable moments. They gave a satisfying yet sad ending. The songs were super catchy and well done. Even the choreography was impressive in some moments. I had 2 favorite parts outside of the ending. The argument outside of the neighborhood and JK Simmons appearing in the dance routine at the end.

Inception 2010
“An idea is like a virus, resilient, highly contagious. The smallest seed of an idea can grow.“ This film plants so many of those ideas into this perfect ending. Christopher Nolan made something as perfect as they come. From the layered storytelling, to the welt built score, to the open ending. This is a perfectly made film.
