First time seeing this in the theater and it holds up... Dolby is phenomenal in all the places you’d expect.
This is a coming of age story that you've seen a thousand times before but from the perspective of a completely different segment of society.
It combines the expected 80s nostalgia and fish-out-of-water with the suddenly relevant again issues of immigration, stagnating global economies, and the resurgence of nazi fascist ideology.
All in all, it's an enjoyable watch with a solid soundtrack.
McConaughey’s performance as Moondog is the pinnacle of his “alright, alright, alright...” ethos. I can’t help but see it as the flip side of Nic Cage’s performance as Red Miller in Mandy (2018). It is an effortless performance surrounded by a load cast failing at bit roles.
