The Manchurian Candidate

The Manchurian Candidate ★★★★½

Hell.
John Frankenheimer’s riveting The Manchurian Candidate is one of the best thrillers of all time. When I say that this film tops some of Hitchcock’s films, I mean it (and it even has Janet Leigh, soooooo).
But seriously, Sinatra and Harvey are equally superb in their roles. The dark and timely commentary likely scared the shit out of 1962 America. It’s such a timeless story, though - manufactured heroes, false faces, and actions not our own. America today is far more fucked and mysterious than it was in 1962, and that’s only because we’re at “”””””peace”””””. Some of the things that go down are tragic beyond belief, and it brought tears to my eyes. The Manchurian Candidate is truly excellent.
