I went into this expecting a petrolhead film but was surprised at how much i enjoyed it. Christian Bale is great and steals most scenes. Josh Lucas does why he does best - playing an asshole. The racing scenes don’t match those in the likes of Rush but are gripping. I do not follow racing so found myself gripped by the outcome.

Mahershala Ali is fantastic, good chemistry with Viggo Mortensen. It is his film despite the story being framed from Tony Lip’s POV. It plays a lot of the scenes safer than it could have. It is once again a persecuted persons story told from the nice white males perspective. Which is story we see all too often. Heavy involvement from Lips family taken into consideration as to their fathers portrayal.
I enjoyed what I saw, but can’t help but feel it’s told from the wrong perspective.
