Scream 2

Scream 2 ★★★½

Deliciously meta, even more so than the first film. The idea that the Scream movies exist inside of themselves is so wild and creative. Overall the plot is a lot weaker than the original—like, Randy’s death was straight up just not acknowledged?! WTF?—but it’s still a good time. Also, the sheer amount of young talent in this is insane. You’ve got Sarah Michelle Gellar, Joshua Jackson, Portia de Rossi, and Jada Pinkett Smith in very minor roles, not to mention Omar Epps; Heather Graham and Luke Wilson show up in Stab, the movie-within-a-movie; Timothy Olyphant gives just a knockout performance; and Liev Schrieber gets a lot more well deserved screen time this time around. Whew!
