Roberto Benigni put a massive target on his back when he decided to make this film, but he absolutely delivered. One of the funniest yet most tragic tales I've ever seen.
The first half of this movie is really hit or miss for most people, but for me it just felt like a Italian Mr. Bean, and who doesn't love Mr. Bean? The second half is were the movie shines though, it hit me harder than 'The Piano' or even 'Schindler's List'.
I was always annoyed that Ed Norton didn't get an Oscar for 'American History X', and although I do still think that Norton deserved it, you couldn't lose to a better person than Roberto Benigni. I mean, just look at his acceptance speech.
