U know how Sequels do that thing where they try to advance the story and up the ante from its predecessor, but end up lazily undoing what happened in the 1st film with its plot to force conflict and plays too many of the same beats where the Protagonist seems like they haven’t grown? That’s this movie. Thankfully Angelina Jolie is a vision and I could watch 90mins of her in makeup with just her facial expressions to have a good time. The world gets bigger but a bit messier. Michelle Pfeiffer’s kinda Evil Queen plays well off of Maleficent with a not so surprising turn, but their chemistry is electric. Elle is Elle, the prod and character designs are still cool and the film isn’t a bad time with the right audience.
