I'm finding it difficult to put into words just how smitten I am with The Worst Person in the World and how much it moved me. My first experience viewing this film back last fall was a nightmare, thanks to a particular festival's pathetic virtual platform. As such, I was angry while watching and did not properly appreciate the beauty in front of me. This time, I was hit so hard emotionally by the humanity within Joachim Trier's funny, perceptive script. Renate Reinsve has emerged onto the international film stage as a fucking rockstar with possibly the best performance of this young decade. Touching on millennial anxiety in a way that few (if any) films have done as effectively, The Worst Person in the World is a once-in-a-generation romantic comedy that will make you laugh, rip your heart into pieces, and ultimately heal you.
