The second movie I've seen today that shows carnivals as evil places.
I'm on the fence with this one. I feel like there's another story being told but I can't place it. There's a lot of symbolism of the current political and social situation in America... I'm not sure if that's what the plot eludes to, or if I'm seeing things that aren't there.
The film does a great job at building tension and fear, but I'm not sure if the over-all story actually works. The main plot expands vastly in the 2nd act, revealing that it's more than one family being affected, and this grand plot doesn't have the same level of tension - it's more mysterious than scary. I also knew what the twist would be right from the start...
I'll have to watch it again to see if my theory is right about the plot being about the "us versus them" political movement in America.
A tense thriller, but I'm still trying to make sense of it.
