Sexy, scary, a lil bit silly… In many ways such a real-world film but the acting and dialogue make it feel so surreal. Gorgeously shot and Wahlberg’s face is just so big on the screen — first time seeing this in a theater. Totally unnerving all the way through. Death scenes still shake me to my core. Played perfectly with an audience.

Honestly kind of terrible if not for just witnessing Park Chan-wook drafting out his stylistic flourishes that will go on to define his later, greater work (the camera following a bullet going through someone's hand is memorable). His latest, Decision to Leave, is a MUCH better film but the problem I had with it is exhibited here in tenfold: it's too damn goofy.
I had fun, but it lowkey felt like sitting through an entire season of an HBO series that would not let me pause between episodes....... Overdrawn subplots, confusing repeat of racist jokes (don't worry, we PLENTY get it the first time), and it's annoyingly such a male fantasy movie. On the bright side, I went from not getting Alana Haim at all to being quite charmed.
