This is one of those movies you watch and it changes the way you view film, society, and yourself. The Elephant Man is a shocking, and depressing look at John Merrick’s life. It’s one of those movies that will impact everyone who watches it and I would consider it essential viewing. John Hurt is exceptional here, completely disappearing into his role, and bringing so much humanity to this character. John Merrick is a truly one of a kind person, and…
My girlfriend wanted to show me this movie and I’ll be honest…was not looking forward to watching this. But I’m an idiot cuz this movie rules! This movie is gorgeous to look at. On a technical level this movie is immaculate. Incredible cinematography and production design. Some of the set pieces blew me away.
The acting is great across the board. Emmy Rossum is a fantastic Christine and has an amazing singing voice (my girlfriend also told me she tried…
I May not have understood everything immediately but when I got home my brother and I started analyzing and trying to figure out exactly what happened. I love when a movie does that. I’m excited to rewatch it. Yes this is a flawed movie but the way it made me feel was something that I loved. I thought Interstellar was extremely flawed the first time I saw it and now it’s one of my Favourites so I will be seeing Tenet again this weekend.
Taika Waititi is so good at balancing humour with heart that you don’t even notice how much you care about these characters until the drama hits, and you start tearing up. It’s a simple story executed by a director who has a mastery of his craft and knows what he’s doing. This movie really hit home for me which I think made it that much more impactful. Being early in Taika’s career it’s not perfect and has some pacing problems, but overall it’s a great film. If you enjoy Taika’s filmography and haven’t seen this definitely check it out.
