David Starr’s review published on Letterboxd:
8th Film for my Film class
It was supposed to be about sound but I misinterpreted the deadline so I never finished the assignment... so I’ve watched this movie like 3-4 times in a row trying to analyze it and it got funnier with every watch. The mom is somehow the antagonistic heart to this movie that keeps it funny. Lady bird is just like her mom in so many headstrong opinionated quirky ways. I feel like this is a very accurate representation of dating in HS; it’s confusing, weird, and never ends well.
Something that really stuck out to me was the use of music and montages. Sometimes music would just drift off into subtle montage and then be abruptly brought back. I really liked how that was done. That’s kind of like HS life with episodic meaningless until an event snaps you back.
I really liked this movie from the passive aggressive mother to the adopted brother.
“...she’s in AP Calculus”
“She’s a moron in a deeper sense.”
Why is that so true?
