Kurosawa’s review published on Letterboxd:
You don't have to be a fan of Rudy Ray Moore/Dolemite to enjoy "Dolemite Is My Name".
This is a story of a struggling dreamer's unlikely rise to stardom, very much like Tim Burton's "Ed Wood". Only perhaps more thoroughly entertaining, enlightening, surprisingly sweet and inspiring while definitely quite a bit more raunchy and hilarious.
It's one of the most pleasant surprises so far this year.
Plus its got a 1000% solid gold music soundtrack!
Although everyone in this is very good (Wesley Snipes and Da'Vine Joy Randolph especially), I think Eddie Murphy gives us absolutely best performance yet as Rudy Ray Moore - though maybe that's a bit unfair to his more comic performances in Trading Places, 48 Hrs.
