I, Tonya

I, Tonya ★★★★

I, Tonya is a film I’ve been hearing about for a few months now as the trailer has been shoved down my throat at every movie I’ve gone to. I’ve been hearing about how fantastic Margot Robbie is as Tonya so I figured I should probably see this.

First off, this movie was a hell of a lot more than I thought it’d be. I mean this thing really goes places you don’t want it to go but they end up doing it super well. I came out of this thing absolutely in love with Tonya Harding. As confusing as the “incident” may be, she doesn’t deserve the cards she was dealt with. I think that is what this film does best, it truly shows you who Tonya really is. It isn’t afraid to show the dark stuff, just like Tonya.

Now from a visual standpoint, this movie looks sooo good. That’s kind of all I have to say about that.

This movie does have flaws, though (obviously). For one it feels like two different movies, one about Tonya’s upbringing and the other about the incident. On top of that, this thing felt like it ended 10 different times. I think the pacing was pretty off which worked at times but not in the grand scheme of things.

That being said, this movie isn’t perfect and the beautiful part is that I don’t think it’s trying to be. This movie is beyond honest and that’s what I love about it. Please see it if you get the chance, it deserves a little bit more buzz in my opinion.
