The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse ★★★

Atmospheric and smartly photographed, but does so with imagery way too dissonant to create a satisfying narrative, and not just because I could only understand every third word that Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe mumbled. There's a fine line between successful abstraction and gibberish, and I thought this one ended up on the wrong side of that spectrum way too often, despite what the ghost of Carl Theodor Dreyer might think.
