Yeah, so this was...interesting...It definitely had its issues but I don’t agree with the critics that are calling this the worst Marvel film.
Let’s start with the positives! First and foremost what a sexy cast!! I went in pumped to see Gemma Chan, Angelina Jolie, and Barry Keoghan on the big screen but I came out loving the entire ensemble!! All the characters had great chemistry together which allowed for some genuinely heartfelt and funny moments! Druig and Makkari were ADORABLE, I can’t wait to see more of them in the future :)) The visuals and effects were, in my opinion, FANTASTIC with well laid out shots and great colours. I thought the Deviant's designs were mesmerizing and I quite enjoyed the fight scenes.
Now for the weaker parts...Eternals suffers the most in its story. The constant time jumps and location changes aren’t hard to follow but they prevent the movie from gaining any real flow. Flashbacks felt random and sometimes jarring, more of an afterthought rather than a priority. The sheer scale of its story and themes feel ridiculously crammed into one movie (even considering that the movie is nearly 3 hours long). I love a good intergalactic epic about gods and warriors, but it almost feels like the MCU is going too big with some of these new installments. It’s going to be very difficult to continue expanding this universe without letting it get away from us because it’s growing exponentially.
Overall, I think the cast and visuals save this over-ambitious film that we maybe weren’t quite ready for at this point in the MCU. But despite that, I still had a fun time watching and I hope to see some of these characters soon in future installments!
