Burning will confuse you. It will also hypnotize you. And then it will make your skin crawl to the point of not wanting to know what will happen in the end.
It’s been a while since, while watching a film, I forgot I was sitting in a theater. This is because Burning transports you into the screen and makes you feel like you are a part of the twisted triangle of characters - and you have no means of escaping. Lee Chang-Dong utilizes the nearly 2 1/2 hour runtime to his advantage, however, taking his time building the tension and leading the audience further from the truth. I’m not even sure that I know exactly what happened by the end of the film because it is so disorienting and inquisitive, but that is what makes you want to watch it again and again.
