Suspiria

Suspiria ★★★½

You Picked, I Watched.

68/100

I wasn't the biggest fan of the original Suspiria but I think there are a few things that I liked more in that version, the music and the colour scheme especially.

Thom Yorke's score is fine but I prefer the less organic sounds that Goblin used, the original theme is so iconic.
The neon colourscape is gone and in it's place we have the yellows and browns that are so synonymous with the 70's.

Other than that I think I prefer this. The bleakness of the colours, the back story of the divided Berlin really helps give it a setting that you can believe in. The shear kinetic energy on display during the dance scenes reminded me at times of "Whiplash". It's hideously gory and violent with some very odd visuals!

I struggled with the pacing in the early parts though which is the only reason I can't score it too high.
