Lars Møller’s review published on Letterboxd:
Spiderman does Europe
I didn't have high expectations for this film - but it still managed to disappoint. Especially the first half was terrible. The whole beginning with Peter going to Europe, his forced crush on MJ, his co-students and teachers... Don't get me started on Martin Starr and J.B. Smoove.
The film then picks up the pieces in its second half and reveals what it actually wants to do, which is also not as surprising as it wants you to think. However, Jake Gyllenhaal does a really nice job as Mysterio, and in some sequences he is the Mysterio I remember from the cartoons. I would've wished the film had delved deeper into the character.
This is without a doubt the least Spiderman-y Spiderman live action movie of all of them. I know everyone gives 'Spiderman 3' and 'The Amazing Spiderman 2' a hard time, but seriously guys; this is just as bad.
