  • Slow West

    Slow West 2015

    ★★★★ Watched 25 Apr 2015

Michael Fassbender and Ben Mendelsohn playing opposing bounty hunters in a western reminiscent of a Sam Peckinpah movie. That's what you get in "SLOW WEST." Oh, and *by far* the greatest salt-on-a-wound joke of all time.

My coverage from Independent Film Festival Boston 2015 on SumoSkinny.com.

  • The Overnight

    The Overnight 2015

    ★★★½ Watched 24 Apr 2015

I didn't mention Jason Schwartzman's penis in my review/coverage of "THE OVERNIGHT" for IFFBoston 2015 on Sumo Skinny, however, I feel like it must be mentioned somewhere that he proudly displays it - a lot - in this L.A. swinger comedy.

  • The End of the Tour

The End of the Tour 2015

    ★★★★ Watched 22 Apr 2015

James Ponsoldt strikes again! "THE END OF THE TOUR" also features two very, very strong performances from Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segal. Check out my capsule review from IFFBoston 2015, for SumoSkinny.com.

  • Unfriended

    Unfriended 2014

    ★★½ Watched 15 Apr 2015

Holds clear intentions of trying to scare its viewers, but works more as a satire on Millenials. I offered more thoughts on "UNFRIENDED" in my review for SumoSkinny.com.

  • Ex Machina

    Ex Machina 2014

    ★★★ Watched 07 Apr 2015

A best-of-ideas compilation featuring influences from Kubrick, Glazer, and (yes) Blomkamp(?!?). + Llewyn Davis means extra half star.

  • The World of Kanako

    The World of Kanako 2014

    ★★★½ Watched 26 Mar 2015

Wrote (mostly) about "THE WORLD OF KANAKO" covering Days 2 & 3 of Boston Underground Film Festival 2015. See my capsule for SumoSkinny.com here.

  • The Editor

    The Editor 2014

    ★½ Watched 25 Mar 2015

Caught this and wrote a little capsule on it at the opening night of Boston Underground Film Festival, but in short: a hodgepodge of giallo references with hints of John Carpenter doesn't necessarily make a good movie.

  • Danny Collins

    Danny Collins 2015

    ★★★ Watched 12 Mar 2015

Al Pacino plays himself - and does a damn good job at it - in the relatively heartwarming, strong directorial debut from "CRAZY, STUPID LOVE" writer Dan Fogelman.

I interviewed Dan Fogelman about "DANNY COLLINS" a few weeks back, too, for SumoSkinny.com.

  • Cinderella

    Cinderella 2015

    ★★½ Watched 09 Mar 2015

I'd be much more interested to watch a movie with a fresh script called "TINDERELLA," because this live-action version of "CINDERELLA" was just completely underwhelming in every imaginable way to me.

  • Chappie

    Chappie 2015

    ★★★½ Watched 04 Mar 2015 2

Everybody that's taking time out of their day to point out plot holes, instances of amateur acting, and their own personal issues with the fact that all of Neill Blomkamp's movies take place in a dystopian universe is basically trying to kill auteurism.

And I don't know if this says anything about who I am as a person, but I've been listening to a lot of Die Antwoord over these last three days...

  • Focus

    Focus 2015

    ★★½ Watched 24 Feb 2015

Reviewed this last week for SumoSkinny.com, and although I'm happy to see The Fresh Prince on the big screen I still think (and have always thought) that he could be choosing better projects.

Perhaps to blame is the gravitational pull that is Margot Robbie?

  • My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown

My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown 1989

    ★★★½ Watched 09 Feb 2015

100x weirder than I expected it to be. The whole combination of elements of an American sitcom with Irish cultural norms doesn't work, I don't think, without a true method acting performance from an early Daniel Day-Lewis.
