Crimes of the Future

Crimes of the Future ★★★½

I'm fascinated by this future that Corenenberg presents. This idea of human evolution is brilliant and such an interesting concept. I feel you could create an entire series of movies set in that precise universe and they would each tackle something interesting. I love it. As for the film itself, there's a lot to love. You got the organic and analog technology Cronenberg loves so much. Then some body horror, of course. Granted, it’s not the most gruesome one, but it’s still there. The erotism is, of course, directly linked to this body horror where scars, much like in Crash, are a source of sexual desire. He’s still a master at filming bodies, no one can do it as he does. That’s a Cronenberg film alright… and yet, it feels somewhat flat? I really liked it, but the more I think about it, the more I feel like I didn’t care about the story. I just wanted to see more of this distorted future. I feel it could grow upon a rewatch though. It's still pretty damn good.
