Kate

Kate ★★★★

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (who is making a real name for herself as a cinematic bad ass) plays Kate, a Tokyo assassin who has been poisoned and has only a day to kill everyone involved.

Kate is yet another entry in the female assassin action genre, of which there has been a huge glut of lately. Not that I mind, it has been a great era of female assassin movies. Kate borrows heavily from far too many other movies to list here, but they are easy to spot. It's derivative, sure, but adds its own spin to the usual fight scenes and is inventive in several other ways too. Like a D.O.A. meets La femme Nikita grindhouse gang bang, complete with pretty colors and fun violence.

Great visual journey through modern day downtown Tokyo.
