sometimes it’s hard to measure a film until you have time to digest it. with lynne ramsay‘s work, often what you are left with are visuals - these images that become sealed off in your brain, and even more so in a film like this with so little dialogue. i’ve had almost two years to digest this film since i first saw it, but it still feels like it hasn’t fully settled with me. there are images from this that i’d filed away in little cabinets in my head & seeing them again today was like touching an open wound, still fresh. but that’s the power of her films. the scenes stick with you and feel so palpable that it’s impossible to forget them. even years later, it’s like the blood is still wet.
