Brandon’s review published on Letterboxd:
I’m pretty sure this was one of the movies that sparked my gay awakening. The whole “Lay All Your Love On Me” sequence with the abundance of shirtless men dancing around was enough for my closeted ass to be excited about.
The movie itself is wonderfully lighthearted and sweet. With really solid performances from all (sans Pierce Brosnan’s horrible singing) with Meryl Streep leading the pack with such veracity and vigor. She brings so much genuine emotion to a very high camp story. Her singing is beautiful and she is radiant from the moment we see her.
This is one of my favorite movies for the simple fact it makes you so happy for no reason. And that should count for something.
