Spending a lot of personal time with the protagonist makes you really feel for what she's going through, which makes the brutal ending even more traumatising. Don't get me wrong, the ending is an all-timer,…
"All I want is to kill you, or be killed by you."
Despite wearing its influences on its sleeve, Kung Fu Hustle is an utterly unique, supremely creative and endlessly fun martial arts comedy. A tad unfocused, but the absurdity at play more than makes up for it. The knife scene alone is such a masterful display of comedic timing, and the action is incredible.
This may just be the perfect Batman movie, while somehow also managing to be a great Christmas movie and a wonderfully comic gothic noir film. There are parts that by all rights should belong in one of Joel Schumacher's Batman sequels, but Tim Burton has crafted a world in which they are believable without being ridiculous. As usual, the villains are more interesting than the hero, and while Michael Keaton is a loveable Bruce Wayne and a decently badass Batman, it's Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer who steal the show as Penguin and Catwoman respectively.
