Pretty solid and nasty little slasher. Full of neat camerawork and gruesome kills. Builds tension well and employs some great social commentary. It’s interesting to see a horror movie use COVID as a plot device like this, and it’s handled well.

Do we ever really know the ones we love?

Gorgeous meditation on the tangle of joy and despair. Mescal gives a fantastically low-key performance as a man grappling with the life he had, the life he has, and the life he never will. Wells’ approach to the narrative is really great, melding existential and familial drama masterfully. Beautiful and wonderfully melancholy. Really does get better the more you think about it.

A really fun and effective slasher that fits within the genre’s mold while also building out its own mythos. Has some really gnarly kills that get under your skin, but also a good deal of black comedy that lighten things up. References countless other horror flicks and employs theirs tropes in clever ways. Just when it’s beginning to feel a bit ridiculous and silly, it bounces back with a solid emotional core and some really nasty violence, reminding you that…
