A Special Day

A Special Day ★★★½

it’s nice to see a movie set in fascist italy that talks about a gay man because lgbt+ people were also one of the groups targeted by fascist ideologies and sometimes we tend to forget that. una giornata particolare was very beautifully shot and both sophia loren and mastroianni played their roles pretty well. i liked the fact that the entire movie was engulfed in the strong sounds of the parade being transmitted by radio as the story unfolded. the way gabrielle was portrayed was very interesting if a little bit too defeatist but i guess a gay man in fascist italy couldn’t really be the happiest person on earth
