2001: A Space Odyssey

2001: A Space Odyssey

Right, almost forgot to log this stone-cold masterpiece, the greatest film of all time, etc, seen for the first time in a theatre on 70mm ("unrestored" version)—though I do have to wonder whether I value this less than I used to (even compared to, say, recent favourites such as The Tree of Knowledge or Ce vieux rêve qui bouge). Consensus masterpieces are interesting since, by definition, they often satisfy a range of aesthetic value systems, but I'm not certain that 2001 does that? Which, of course, only makes its undeniable, gargantuan achievement more improbable and miraculous. Anyway, tentatively filing this viewing under: possible indicator of shifting aesthetic preferences.
