Libby Caldwell’s review published on Letterboxd:
I was just going to write a simple, jokey review for this like, “All I want is a friendship like Jojo and Hitler’s”, but this deserves so much more than that.
Let me set the scene for how I was feeling before this: Boy is probably in my top 25 ever, and I’ve seen every other Taika film but unfortunately every other one doesn’t quite work for me. So I was definitely scared going into this that I wouldn’t get the hype and I didn’t even think this could top Boy for me but here we are!
Jojo Rabbit is, quite simply, incredible. It’s tense when it needs to be, sad when it needs to be and downright fucking hilarious when it needs to be.
Taika’s script is easily his best, and funniest ever. This film is stuffed to the brim with jokes and not a single one misses the mark.
Everyone plays their part perfectly here, even Rebel Wilson who I usually can’t stand and especially Roman Griffin Davis, I can’t wait to see everything else he does.
I never give out 5 stars on the first watch but I couldn’t find any flaws, I don’t throw this word around easily but I genuinely think of this as a masterpiece.
