Libby Caldwell’s review published on Letterboxd:
When I first watched the original Star Wars trilogy I thought it was okay, nothing great. However watching it in a marathon after watching the prequels made it seem amazing.
The reason that I’m bringing this up is that this was the one X-Men film I had seen before I decided to marathon them all and like with Star Wars, when I first watched it I didn’t think it was anything special but now it’s my favourite of the series.
Matthew Vaughn brings his signature style to X-Men: First Class and I have to say I am a fan of his. He is such a breath of fresh air as this is by far the most visually interesting film and the most well edited in the series (so far).
This is massively helped by the new additions to the cast who are all super charismatic and engaging and massively elevate the film.
This is the first one I’ve genuinely liked in the series, the story is interesting and it definitely feels like it earns its length for the most part.
