blue’s review published on Letterboxd:
i was on top. who the fuck is on top their first time?
wanting to escape, falling in love with your first real crush, falling in lust with guys who think they’re deeper than they actually are, fighting with your best friend over tiny meaningless things, doing something that you know will score you points with the popular kids, blaming everyone but yourself, losing your virginity, dieting, arguing with, laughing with, crying with and learning to appreciate your difficult, but incredible mother.
this film speaks to everyone. not just those of us who grew up in suburban california, but anyone who feels lost. anyone who knows exactly what they want from life, but isn’t quite sure how to get it. saoirse ronan and laurie metcalf’s chemistry is unreal. this is without a doubt, one of the greatest debuts of all time, or maybe even the greatest debut of all time. greta gerwig is a brilliant actress, but she is an extraordinary director.
