Upgrade

Upgrade ★★★★

While Upgrade does feel very constrained by its low budget at times, with a setting that just felt like a generic city with some futuristic cars plastered on, as well as some very cheezy performances, I feel the film makes up for it through its very slick direction. The camerawork in the action scenes was some of the best I've seen in an action film. And although the film is held back by its cheesiness, the film feels pretty self-aware of its cheesiness, providing for a ton of fun and hilarious moments. The film does also has an intriguing mystery that kept me engaged. So although its low budget made the film feel pretty constrained, and it could be a tad too cheezy for its own good, Upgrade makes up for it through its intriguing story and very slick direction.
