When You Finish Saving the World

When You Finish Saving the World ★★★★

Kinda obsessed with the score for this. Emile Mosseri has done it again.
And damn, I really didn’t know what to expect with this but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Idk if I can even say “pleasantly” because this was sort of unbearable to watch but I still liked it lol. I can see why some people are hating this, but I kinda feel like that’s the point, is it not? Like the characters are so stuck in their own ways and what they want that they don’t see when they’re overstepping or being disrespectful. They keep seeking out relationships with other people even though they really need to mend their own mother-son relationship more than anything.
I actually didn’t love the whole weird slang thing going on, but after hearing Jesse Eisenberg’s explanation of it in the Q&A, it just sorta clicked for me as something that works for the film. I still think it could’ve done without it, but it makes a lot more sense to know how it was rationalized beforehand.
(“it just seemed so funny that this would be one of the kids who would be one of those early adopters of slang that we haven’t all yet agreed upon….”-Jesse Eisenberg)
