  • GoodFellas

Waking to the news this morning of the passing of Ray Liotta was an incredible shock. A formidable presence on our screens, Ray was often cast as the omnipresent ‘Bad Guy’, but to me, he was that familiar, rugged face, brilliant blue-eyed, rough around the edges, the guy with a heart of gold who will be greatly missed. I watched Goodfellas in memory of the big guy today. Henry Hill, the right-hand man to the most influential New York crime…

"What is the Matrix?" "What is real?"

What if our world was not the world as we know it but a virtual reality created by Artificial Intelligence. So goes the premise of the movie known as The Matrix. When released, the series broke many boundaries for the time. Special effects, stunts, the ability to tell a complex story so that the viewer could understand it, and bringing together a stellar cast to tell that story certainly helped.

    After nearly 22…

Thirteen Lives follows the coach and 12 players of Chiang Rai's The Wild Boars junior soccer team. On June 23, 2018, on a trip to celebrate their young teammate's birthday, they venture into the underground cave system Tham Luang Nang Non, resting beneath Doi Nang Non, the 'Mountain of the Sleeping Lady' in Chiang Rai Province in Northern Thailand. With torrential monsoon rains arriving early, the complex maze of caves quickly becomes flooded, and the team is trapped. An expert…

    The Janes

The Janes Documents the group of courageous women (and a small number of men) who, pre-Roe v. Wade 1968-1973, assisted those seeking safe but, at that time, illegal abortions.

Turn back the clock to the 1960s, when women had no access to safe, legal abortions. A married woman with cancer making it dangerous to carry a child had no access. A woman or young girl who had been raped had no access. Victims of incest had no access. Women carrying…

    The Batman

Working undercover in the dark of night, millionaire Bruce Wayne fights crime on the streets of Gotham disguised as The Batman (Robert Pattinson). When the city's mayor is murdered by a deranged criminal calling himself The Riddler (Paul Dano), Police Officer James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) and The Batman must work together to find out who he is before his murderous spree continues.

I was a bit worried going into The Batman. We've had some awesome iterations of DCs iconic character…

    Lady Bird

This is my second viewing of Lady Bird and it is as gorgeous as I remembered. It's funny how those little details catch your attention with a second viewing. This time around, I noticed the delightful score composed by Jon Brion. Written and directed by Greta Gerwig (in her directorial debut), the screenplay is exceptional, with quirky, relatable characters living everyday situations. The acting from Saoirse Roman, Laurie Metcalf, Lucas Hedges, Beanie Feldstein and Lois Smith is fabulous. Tracy Letts as Ladybird's Dad, Larry, could easily be overlooked, but he is so wonderfully wholesome in the role.

Lady Bird is enchanting, comforting, warm, and so very rewatchable.
