an exhausting technical marvel that only just barely works when it’s in motion (and when rita moreno is on screen); the numbers are on the whole incredible and deserving of acclaim but it’s so totally flawed in every other way. and i always struggle with natalies performances because as much as i like her, she can really turn in a clunker- she is at her most wooden here, but she has no support from a thin script that doesn’t give her much to do
there is nothing particularly cinematic about this.. it’s basically a 200 minute video essay intercut with true crime tvesque reenactments. it’s still beyond serviceable, and more than plenty engaging as well as thought provoking but it has a stylistic dryness to it that keeps me from really *loving* it. can always count on good ole kev, though.
