    Fast X 2023

This is the exact movie that haters of this franchise think these movies are.

A lot of my criticisms just boil down to Leterrier not really understanding or tapping into the franchise's established ethos in any forward thinking or interesting way. While this isn't as blasphemous as Fast 8's complete obliteration of the family values that tie these people together, Fast X largely comes off as so incredibly unserious all of the time, to the detriment of both the lore…

Ferrara's signature genuineness and passion is, yet again, beautifully effective on every single front of filmmaking.

A lot of the themes and shot sequences feel similar to those of Mary and 4:44, but utilizing them in a film based on real people instead of characters elevates them beyond that. Ferrara synthesizes not only Pasolini's life into a tale of sincerity, but also a few of his unfinished works in order to give them the recognition that they deserve. This may…

For the amount of implied deaths and paralysis victims this film bludgeons on screen, its actually very sweet at its core.

Kinda crazy that people feel the need to parody and mock a type of film like this so heavily when all it cares about is cool stunts and good guys winning. Sure, it makes the film less powerful and loses potential thematic weight by doing this, but it definitely allows for some confident action and genuine characters. Modern day…

    ★★ Watched by ryan :] 15 Dec 2022

Watched via High On Life with Red Letter Media commentary. Really funny how Mike has seen this movie before and is able to explain what is happening up to a point where it becomes absolutely incomprehensible. A lot of cool effects and action scenes and I really do think it has a good heart and ideas, but it chooses not to explain or do very much interesting stuff at all. I could see why this is considered a cult favorite…

Pretty much King Kong but way better.

The directing is certainly a huge step up from Honda's efforts immediately before this one. The color scheme is much more robust, the characters more enjoyably written and identifiable, and the score blended unique orchestral and tribal sounds together very well. The shot composition relies less of pans and more on tense wider and close up shots, and the trademark use of scale was used in both a new smaller way as well…
