    Boyfriends and Girlfriends

I kinda dig that the translation for this title most places is Boyfriends and Girlfriends, rather than the actual title card which reads My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend.

The former implies the confusion and uncertainty of romance among a loose group of friends; i.e., regardless of what is presented, who really belongs with who? External expressions and internal feelings don’t always match up perfectly, and it’s much more thrilling to watch characters explore those emotions themselves than for the film to just follow one or two picturesque relationships. However, as always with Rohmer, every relationship ends up seeming picturesque.

Salute to the man Francis for even having the gall to try.
